German WWI Iron Cross
This 1914 Iron Cross First Class (Eisener Kreuz 1. Klasse) was was a pin-on medal with no ribbon awarded for acts of bravery in combat during the Great War, and was worn centered on a uniform breast pocket. The award was originally created by King Frederick William III of Prussia in 1813, was later issued again in 1870 by Kaiser Wilhelm I, and was subsequently re-instituted in 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II.
