Jin Dynasty (265 – 316 AD) Frog Bowl
Antique celadon "green ware" frog-shaped water dish from the Western Jin Dynasty (A.D. 265 – 316) of China. This jade to pale olive green colored ceramic bowl was likely used as a small water pot for wetting inkstones. Carved in the shape of a wide-mouthed frog, the jar has floral decoration and applied stoneware detailing. It has minor imperfections in the glaze as shown, and measures 4.5 inches in diameter by 2.5 inches tall.
