Rare Lotus Ware Vase
Exquisite hand-painted Lotus Ware vase signed by Knowles, Taylor, and Knowles Co. on the bottom. Lotus Ware, which is thought to be named for the unique glaze that gives off the pearly sheen of a lotus blossom, was produced by the KT&K pottery company in East Liverpool, Ohio between 1892 and 1896. This special type of porcelain ranked first in the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, where it won every prize in the category. It is widely regarded as the finest porcelain to ever be produced in the United States, and is extremely rare with only about 5,000 pieces are estimated to survive today. This oblong vase features delicate purple flowers, gold hand-jeweled detailing, and an openwork design. It measures 4.5 inches tall by 6.75 inches long by 4.5 inches wide, and is in beautiful condition.
